Welcome to our class page

Welcome to our class page! This is a place to find updates, reminds and information to help the school year run smoothly. It is also a place to celebrate the children's achievements and share examples of their work.

Some important things to start us off this Year:

  • Our PE day is Tuesday - Pupils are to come into school on Tuesday in their PE kits (plain black joggers or shorts and a plain white T-shirt).
  • All earrings need taking out or covering for the PE lesson.
  • Reading books and diaries need to be in school each day.
  • Reading books will be changed in accordance with children's RWI groups.
  • Spellings will be handed out every Friday and then tested on the following Friday.
  • Homework will be given out every Friday and will be due back by the following Tuesday.

Should you have any questions about anything to do with your child’s education, you can speak to myself on the door at the start and the end of each day or via the Class Dojo messenger.

English

In English, a new picture book is read each week to inspire learning and discussion. Writing lessons focus on writing retells, using expanded noun phrases to add detail, and using a range of conjunctions to extend ideas. Daily practice is dedicated to letter formation and handwriting to develop fluency and accuracy in written work.

Maths

In Maths children complete daily starter activities that focus on addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. These tasks help to build fluency and strengthen core number skills. Children use pictorial representations to support their understanding and embed key concepts. Alongside this, they regularly tackle reasoning and problem - solving questions, encouraging them to apply their knowledge in different contexts and develop deeper Mathematical thinking.

Curriculum

This term, our topic is "Why did people build castles?"

We will be travelling back to learn about the Battle of Hastings and discover why castles were built and how they helped people to defend themselves.

During out topic, we will explore different types of castles and learn about their important features, including towers, walls, gates, drawbridges and moats. We will also find out what knights wore and learn about the armour and weapons they used.

We will be developing out history skills by looking at evidence from the past, asking questions and comparing castles from different periods. We are looking forward to becoming castle experts!

Colin the Chameleon

Meet Colin the Chameleon, our very special class teddy!

Each week, Colin will choose a child to go home with for the weekend. The child who is chosen will be a child who has done something great at school that week. This could be anything from improving their handwriting, working really hard, being kind and helpful, showing fantastic leaning or helping others in the classroom. There are lots of reasons why Colin might choose you!

Colin will spend the weekend at home with you, joining in with all your fun and adventures. You might take him on a special outing, read him a story, play games together or simply enjoy family time.

We can't wait to hear about Colin's weekend adventures when he returns to school on Monday!
