Health and Safety Team
The Health and Safety Team at Moorcroft Wood Academy is made up of responsible and observant pupils who are dedicated to helping keep our school a safe and secure place for everyone. Their role is to work alongside staff to promote safe behaviours, identify potential hazards, and share important safety messages with their peers. The team regularly carries out learning walks around the academy, discusses ways to improve safety, and helps to raise awareness about topics such as online safety, road safety, and playground safety. As positive role models, they encourage all children to make sensible choices and take responsibility for their own wellbeing, helping to create a safe, supportive environment where everyone can learn and thrive.

Checklists.
The Health and Safety Team plays an active role in keeping our school safe by completing monthly safety checklists of their classrooms and the surrounding school environment. During these checks, pupils carefully look for any potential hazards and ensure that their areas are tidy, secure, and safe for everyone. The team works in partnership with Elite Health and Safety, who support and guide the initiative. To encourage commitment and consistency, every completed checklist that is handed in is entered into a raffle, rewarding pupils for their dedication to maintaining a safe and secure learning environment.

Health and Safety Audit.
The Health and Safety Team recently had the opportunity to work closely with Adam, an officer from Elite Health and Safety, during a full health and safety audit of the school. Accompanied by Mr Leese and Miss Hollingworth, the pupils took part in an environmental walk around the school, carefully observing the grounds and identifying any potential hazards. They also reviewed essential fire safety procedures and “must-haves” to ensure everyone would be prepared in an emergency. Adam then gave the children the chance to independently explore classrooms and pinpoint any safety risks themselves, helping them develop their awareness, confidence, and understanding of how to maintain a safe learning environment.
